Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, Dec. 31 through Monday, Jan. 7 the Newport Police Department responded to 489 calls. Of those, 133 were motor vehicle related; there were 114 motor vehicle violations issued and 19 accident reports.

Police responded to 5 calls of vandalism, 4 noise complaints, 8 animal complaints, 24 suspicious persons or vehicles, and 30 parking complaints. They performed 1 private tow, 16 school security checks, and 22 home/business alarm calls/checks, they transported 4 prisoners, and assisted 2 other police departments and 4 other agencies.

In addition, 24 arrests were made for the following violations:

n 7 were made for disorderly conduct

n 4 were made for simple assault

n 2 were made for violating a no contact order

n 2 were made for possession of drugs with the intent to manufacture or deliver

n 2 were made for shoplifting

n 1 was made for domestic simple assault

n 1 was made for possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture or deliver

n 1 was made for driving with a suspended or revoked license

n 1 was made for public urination

n 1 was made for driving without a license or expired

n 1 was made for possession of narcotics

n 1 was made for domestic simple assault on a person over 60
