Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, April 30 through Monday, May 7, the Newport Police Department responded to 623 calls. Of those, 166 were motor vehicle related; there were 135 motor vehicle violations issued and 31 accident reports.

Police responded to 7 calls of vandalism, 5 noise complaints, 14 animal complaints, 15 suspicious persons or vehicles, and 61 parking complaints. They performed 18 home/business alarm calls/ checks, and 35 school security checks. They transported 3 prisoners, escorted 1 funeral and assisted 6 other police departments and 4 other agencies.

In addition, 36 arrests were made for the following violations:

7 were made for underage drinking

4 were made for bench warrants

4 were made for larceny

3 were made for driving with a suspended or revoked license

3 were made for domestic simple assault

3 were made for disorderly conduct

2 were made for vandalism

2 were made for public urination

2 were made for purchasing alcohol for a minor

1 was made for possession of marijuana

1 was made for possession of drugs with the intent to manufacture or deliver

1 was made for possession of narcotics

1 was made for second-degree molestation

1 was made for open container

1 was made for violating a no-contact order
