Students Embrace Arts

Students at the Pell School collaborate with the Island Moving Co. in a new creative movement residency program during the week of Jan. 6. The project illustrated the concepts of unity, tolerance, support and respect, reflecting the themes essential to the culture of the newly-unified elementary school. Supported by donations from David and Leslie Reed and the Benefactors of the Arts’ Secret Garden Tour, the residency integrated text, music, and movement as part of an effort to incorporate the arts into the daily curriculum. IMC Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen noted, “We’ve worked with Newport’s elementary students for years – it’s exciting to have them all together in one building.” For more information about the IMC’s educational programs, visit islandmovingco.org.
