Experience, Education, Exploration

Kaitlyn and Tristan Mouligne Kaitlyn and Tristan Mouligne The fifth annual summer fundraising party for Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island raised more than $100,000 for its education-at-sea programs. Held Friday, June 30 at Newport Shipyard, the event celebrated SSV Oliver Hazard Perry’s inaugural ocean passages to Cuba and Bermuda as well as the nonprofit organization’s continued commitment to providing, for all ages, “innovative and empowering education-at-sea programs to promote personal and professional growth.”

Within eyesight of the docked 200-foot tall ship OHP, approximately 350 guests enjoyed the “Experience, Education, Exploration” theme with the Oliver Hazard Pear-y Fizz signature beverage, a raw bar, dinner under the tent by Blackstone Caterers and dancing to the band, Honky Tonk Knights.

The building of SSV Oliver Hazard Perry, Rhode Island’s Official Sailing Education Vessel, has been a $16 million economic development project, which has supported hundreds of jobs in the Rhode Island marine industry.
